English Youth Leadership Program
School-Year Youth Leadership Program
Our Youth Leadership Program is a 8 month long program that starts in the fall semester and ends in spring. Youth Leaders will participate in social justice and political education workshops on topics such as Asian American History, White Supremacy, Anti-Blackness, Restorative Justice, and Gender Justice. At the same time, they will gain hands-on experience in a social justice non-profit by observing and volunteering within AAU’s programs. Youth leaders may also have the opportunity to intern within AAU’s departments, such as Civic Engagement, Equitable Development, Education, and Communications to leave the program with real-world work experience. Throughout the duration of the program, our youth leaders will participate in field trips and programming with our community partners, meeting other high school youth leaders, and contributing to the grassroots organizing of AAU’s community.
Our goal is for every member of the Youth Leadership Program to leave feeling empowered in their abilities to educate, support, and lead in their communities. In return AAU is dedicated to investing in the participating youth, supporting them in their learning and providing additional opportunities for growth and success.
AAU’s Education for Liberation Program is an intergenerational social justice centered summer program for pan-Asian, high school youth. Guided by college-aged mentors and AAU staff, youth step into leadership roles as they plan and teach a multicultural, literacy-focused camp curriculum for children in grades 1–8.
Rooted in community care and collective empowerment, the program supports young people in developing their leadership potential, deepening their cultural identities, and strengthening their social justice consciousness. Through hands-on teaching experience, mentorship, and political education, participants learn that they have the power to make a positive difference and effect meaningful change in their communities.
